I’ve just spent a very enjoyable day at the Squires sugarcraft exhibition in Farnham. It made such a nice change to be on the other side of the fence…. free to look around and even sit down for a coffee and chat with old friends – the height of luxury!!
As always there were cakes that caught my eye:
On the table of honour I really loved the model of a little Japanese girl; her face was exquisite and the details quite superb.
Helen Penman’s contribution also attracted me as I always like cakes that are different – I loved the movement and flow of the decoration she has incorporated here.
I always like the miniature cake competition section and this year was no exception…… My daughter has recently created an African mood board for her GCSE art coursework so I was instantly drawn to the African inspired cake, the patterns and colours were cleverly put together.
I also enjoyed studying the little crowned top cake, pink and gold are always a good combination, I think.
I hope you find these cakes inspiring too

Hello, I was looking at your blog about spending a day at Squires and came across the Helen penman cake, I can’t take credit for the cake itself! but I was delighted to see the cake as I made the decoration for the divider.
Helen is a superb cake maker and it was great working with her.

Hello Lindy and thank you for your kind comment about my work.
I’m completely hooked on creating cake decorations! I love every thing about it.
I have just finished making a “Marie Antoinette” inspired cake crown for an American cake maker………great fun to do.
