“A wonderful bunch of students” was the phrase that Jane, Sally and I felt best described our students on last Friday’s wonky cake course. I was feeling shattered after my full on week working on my DVDs, but these students were a joy to teach. So thank you everyone who attended. Many of you thought that it would have been good to make the workshop a two day course – I agree it would have been a lot of fun and it is something we are considering for the autumn.
The students, as often, came from far and wide: – Nigeria, Ireland, Durham, Kent etc. They were enthusiastic, some a little nervous but all eager to learn. As you can see from the pictures they mastered the art of carving very well and managed to cover the cakes more or less without any folds!
A couple of students had made their ‘task’ harder by bringing cakes that were not Madeiras- Genoese sponge is a little soft for wonkies and fruit cake really needs to be frozen to carve it successfully – but they coped very well.
Hope they inspire you to have a go too!

Thanks Grainne
I know your cake got a little damaged on your flight back to Dublin, but it still certainly meets with my approval. Its lovely to see my cutters in use and you’ve mixed the large flat floral with the smaller collection ones – something I’ve not yet done! It works really well.

It’s a shame your wonky cake didn’t make it back to Nigeria but its gives you all the more reason to practise! As you know we have the items you left behind here and as soon as we receive the cost of shipping from you we will forward them on.
