Eight keen students embarked on their introduction to celebration cakes workshop and eight fabulous cakes were created! Lindy got things underway by introducing the students to sugarpaste. She did a taste test of four different makes of sugarpastes to show how they can differ and to see which one the ladies liked the best. She then moved on to the covering of the board with sugarpaste to give a professional finish.
Lindy talked about the cake itself as she believes the cake has to taste great as well as look good. The students were supplied with a recipe and asked to make an 8′ (20cm) cake. Two ladies arrived with different sizes, we had a 7″ and 9 1/2 “, we are always up for a challenge!! Although not ideal it was, however, useful to see how these sizes looked when completed.
Lindy demonstrated the placing of the sugarpaste onto the cake. Lindy had such a positive and interested response to this demonstration that the class ran over time into the lunch period! The ladies decided to defer lunch and get stuck in while the information was fresh in the minds! Impressive dedication ladies! One student said ”I am so excited I can’t eat my lunch!’
The decorating and stencilling demonstration followed, these are always very popular techniques and today was no exception!
We think the results were great…
The afternoon was a hive of activity as the ladies gained more knowledge and confidence and their cakes started to take shape. ‘ I’ve learnt so much in these few short hours, it gives me so much more confidence’ a student remarked to Lindy.
This course is a fantastic introduction to sugarcrafting. Look out for more ‘introduction’ classes in the spring 2010 programme. In the meantime there are still a few spaces on Lindys classes for 2009. Check out our website for more information and to book yourself in!!
