Deck the halls with boughs of holly… Christmas time has arrived at Lindy’s Cakes as we kick off the festive season with the first of our collection of Christmas workshops. Cookies, everyone loves a cookie, but these Christmas Tree Cookies are in a class of their own. It could not have been a more Christmassy scene today… picture this… a village hall in the heart of the chilterns, the smell of freshly baked spiced cookies (they were fabulous Ruth – thankyou!) cinnamon, orange zest, honey coupled with all the colours of christmas; red, green, white and sparkles… lots of sparkles!
Christmas Tree Cookies workshop is edible art at it’s finest. This course is designed to teach you how to cover cookies using sugarpaste and royal icing. You will also learn piping, daunting to some, but actually when you know the correct technique is easier than you think. Lindy guides you methodically through these processes with invaluable tips and tricks to try. And try you do, because the great thing about cookie classes is that you get to make HEAPS!! Snowmen with groovy hats and scarfs and orange noses, Baubles that glow all glitter and glamour, Christmas Trees traditional and not so and Gingerbread Men respledent in waistcoats.
Lindy uses cookie cutters to get these shapes then starts the decorating process using sugarpaste; for cutting shapes and placing on the cookie and royal icing; for piping and detail work using a re-usable piping bag with piping tubes of various widths. She also demonstrated techniques using patchwork cutters and stencils which add a tremendous amount to the design detail of the cookie and give a professional finish. Lindy’s Cakes Ltd stocks a superb range of cutters, stencils and patchwork cutters which Lindy takes to our workshops so the students can experiment. Lindy also showed us how you can create a hanging decoration by placing a hole through the cookie and attaching a pretty ribbon. They look amazing on a Christmas tree! And because it is the festive season you just have to have sparkles and of course there’s a Lindy Tip for that… Metallic Lustre Dust and Sparkle Dust. Little pots of glitter that add the most beautiful sparkle to your cookie. Irresistable.
The Christmas Tree Cookie workshop is a treat. It is suitable for all levels of sugarcrafter – and the results are truly impressive, trust me! Lindy enjoys teaching these techniques, we enjoy supporting her and judging by the comments on the day, you enjoy doing them!
