In sugarcraft you just have to know the basics. It’s what turns your cake from something OK to something rather special. This ‘beginners’ workshop is a wonderful platform for learning, and it’s a really good idea to have someone teach you the basics in a class setting. You learn so much in a day, there are lots of little tips that make a huge difference to the quality of your finished cake… it is worth doing a course for these alone! On this course you will learn about the baking of the cake, which recipes work well, which don’t! And how to get he best out of your cake. You wil learn how to handle sugarpaste, then cover a board and a cake with it. Plus a selection of techniques and styles to add decoration to your cake. You will also learn which tools are essential for sugarcrafting. There’s a lot to take in…
We had some challenges with our cakes today. A madeira that resembled a collasped volcano and looked beyond redemption and a cake that started collapsing because the recipe didn’t produce a cake dense enough to cover in sugarpaste … but have a look at photos above, you would never know! A triumph!
It can be very soul destroying to put in all that hard work baking your cake then seeing a disaster come out of the oven. But the reality is that there is rarely a cake that cannot be rectified and Lindy and Sally have a wealth of experience in coping with this. It’s a learning process and we do learn a lot from ours, and others, mistakes. Never under estimate that! Lindys classes are as much about learning skills as building confidence. The two go hand in hand. These finished cakes are wonderful to look at and heartwarming! It’s a journey, which Lindy and the team go on with you as well. It’s a joy to see the finished results but it’s just fantastic to see our students leaving the class more confident about their abilites than when they walked in!
We are in the middle of planning our summer workshops so look forward to bring those details to you soon. In the meatime there are some great courses with some spaces avilable in our current collection. Click here for more info.
