This is quite simply the most perfect cake for Mother’s Day! Originally designed by Lindy, this heart shaped cake with pale pink and yellow sugarpaste and decorated with daisies and flowers will definately impress. A really pretty cake that is perfect for Mother’s day, a celebration or a birthday cake. It also makes a lovely little girls cake… as I discovered from my 4 yr old neice ‘ I love this cake Aunty Rach, can you make me one!’ Erm, might need to do the course first!!
The students on this workshop carved fantastic heart shapes. Lindy and Sally were impressed. This course is great for a beginner too, particulary as there is a big focus on the carving. Carving is a great skill to have in cake decorating. When you learn the skill of cake carving it really opens up new creative avenues for cake design. It is also good to learn to cover a ‘shaped’ cake with sugarpaste. It never fails to amaze me how maliable sugarpaste is! This course gives you the oppurtunity to cover a curved shape, and to use two different colours of sugarpaste with a seam in the middle, or a ‘wavy join’ as Lindy puts it!

There was a real feeling of spring on this course – the students came armed with pretty sugarpaste colours. We even had our colleague Susie on the course, her first cake course since starting work for Lindy’s Cakes. Go Susie, there will be no stopping you now! The students covered their cakes extremely well and the flower decorations added a lovely individual style to the heart. No two cakes are ever the same and the workshop environment is the perfect place to experiement with shapes, colours and techniques. Today we used Daisy Cutters, Daisy Centre Stamp, Five- Petal Blossom Cutters and the Miniature Blossom Plunger.
