12,000 pre-ordered tickets, sold-out demonstrations, record number of exhibitors, more square footage than ever before…Cake International 2010…I think we can undeniably say was a HUGE success! This is without a doubt the biggest date in our Lindy’s Cakes diary. For the months prior to November it feels like all roads lead to the Birmingham NEC. Hours of planning and preparation goes into designing our stand and getting stock levels right. Lindy prepares for her demonstrations and flexes her hand muscles for all the book signing!! And the team dust down their uniforms, shine their comfy shoes in preparation for 3 days of madness!! We are delighted with how the show went this year and have enjoyed your positive feed-back immensely. It makes it all worthwhile.
This is my second Cake Interantional Show. Last year was overwhelming! I had just started working for Lindy and certainly didn’t know my piping tube from my posy pick! But this year, although mind blowingly busy, it was a treat to be able to look at the show with a little more knowledge. It never fails to amase me how many people are into cakes and judging by the amount of international people I met at the show…it’s a global love!
The competition work this year was outstanding. As I meandered through the competition area, taking it all in, I was struck by the detail of the work. Observing Lindy at work I do have a fairly good idea of what goes into creating a sugarcraft cake or model exhibit. This Oriental Pagoda model exhibit is a supreme example of exquisite attention to detail! And it’s all made out of sugar! Extraordinary!
As is this sugary gorgeousness…I got very excited about this beautiful exhibit by Jacqui Kelly. Jacqui is well known to Lindy’s cakes and I have had the pleasure of hanging out with Jacqui at our workshops. This ethereal display, that spins slowly so you can take in every angle of detail, is like nothing I have ever seen before made by hand!
Congratulations Jacqui…Gold is well deserved!
There is so much to take in at this show. You find yourself treading the same path over and over again and still finding new things that catch your eye. Whilst I have an appreciation for sugar creations I am a girl that likes to eat! Which is why above all I love Cupcakes! The cake OTM! This is without a doubt the year of the cupcake…this dainty little cake is having it’s moment in the spotlight! Lindy’s book – Bake me I’m yours cupcake celebration covers it all really. I’ve got my signed copy! Cupcakes and cupcake products were hugely popular on our stand…so I am not alone in my love of the cupcake! I was also very impressed by the standard of the novice entries and what some of the children have created – cake stars of the future!
It was truly inspirational.
Makes you want to grab some sugarpaste and get to work!!
Until next year Cake fans…keeeeeeeep Sugarcrafting!!
