Ideal Home Show seeks Sweet Inspiration with the launch of the first ‘Ideal Cake Decorator of the Year’ competition
This year, the Ideal Home Show is celebrating the return of cake decorating and putting the fun back into cake artistry by launching a nationwide search for the UK’s ‘Ideal Home Cake Decorator of the Year’ this March.
Organisers of this year’s show, are on the hunt for the best of the UK’s aspiring cake decorators, with an appetite for the amazing art of sugarcraft ahead of this year’s highly anticipated event in Earls Court running 11 – 27th March.
This year’s brand new competition will also be in celebration of the most anticipated day of the year, the Royal Wedding of HRH Prince William to Catherine Middleton. Entrants will be tasked with creating a royal themed wedding cake, decorated for the royal couple’s happy day, to mark this special occasion.
Entrants to the competition are asked to bring down their Royal themed cake art, to the show on Wednesday 16th March to be displayed in the Ideal Food section of the show, to be in with the chance to win a wide range of prizes which include Champagne afternoon tea for two at the luxurious regency-style hotel, The Kensington, London. Other fantastic prizes include 12 month’s free subscription to Cake Craft & Decoration Magazine along with the winning cake featured in the magazine, an Ice Cream Maker from Andrew James, and hands on cooking course for the winner and a friend courtesy of thanksdarling.com.
Organisers commented: “We want cake decorating enthusiasts from across the UK to create the most fabulous and spectacular cake that is worthy of a Royal wedding and embodies all that is great and British.”
So if you’ve ever fancied yourself as a bit of an artist in the kitchen, spent years slaving away behind sugary treats and delicate cakes just to perfect your icing techniques, or get compliments on how creative your sugary creations are, then this competition is for you!
Anyone that brings a home-decorated cake in theme with the Royal Wedding on Wednesday 16th March will receive half price tickets on the door* and gain automatic entry to the competition by taking their cakes to the judging area in the Ideal Food Section.
The cakes will remain on display throughout the day and prizes will be awarded at a prize-giving ceremony hosted in the Celebrity Chef Theatre of the Ideal Food section with special guests from the culinary and cake world.
The competition is open to all comers – novice and experienced sugarcrafters alike – ladies, gents and children are all welcome. There are some fantastic prizes to be won!
So get your aprons on, your edible flowers blooming and practice your tiers as this is sure to be a well sought after title!

All entries must be brought to the Ideal Food section of this year’s show by 12pm on Wednesday 16th march 2011. Successful Entries that adhere to the competition criteria will be displayed at the Celebrity Chef Theatre at this year’s Ideal Home Show on the 16th Match 2011 and later judged by our esteemed panel of The prize giving ceremony will take place on Wednesday 16th March 2011.
