Here we go again! Lindy’s ‘Introduction to Celebration Cakes’ workshop is so popular we decided we just had to run it again. Nine eager students, nine naked cakes ready for the Lindy Smith treatment!
This is the most fabulous course for the beginner sugarcrafter. It is basic cake covering at it’s best, the humble beginnings of sugarcrafting, and that’s exactly where Lindy starts. Her ‘back to basics’ approach works equally well with sugarcrafters who wants to refresh and update their skills or perfect cake covering, as it does with the complete novice. Lindy’s aim is to help you achieve a professional finish by learning how to handle sugarpaste and then becoming familliar with tools of the trade.
A beginners class is never without it’s challenges, today our biggest challenge was the heat! Whilst much of the UK is basking in the glorious sunshine of this ‘Indian Summer’ we were struggling to make our sugarpaste do what we needed it to by the afternoon. We have students that come from all over the world to attend a Lindy workshop and it is interesting to hear some of the challenges that our cake bakers and decorators encounter due to climate. Trust me cakefriends, heat and humidity is not our friend! Whilst some of our students couldn’t create some of the shapes they wanted when it came to adorning their cakes, on the whole they coped rather well in the heat. They used stencils and moulds today which are firm favourites with Lindy. There is never enough time to completely finish a cake on a beginners workshop but I think our students did really well especially in tropical conditions!!
A Lindy Smith workshop is a super day out. This very kind comment on facebook from Janet says it all really!! “The class was excellent, I learnt a lot. Lindy, Rachel & Jane were lovely they looked after us all so well. I would recommend it to everyone”
