The cake show at the NEC is always very busy, but this year I seemed to have less time than ever to see all the amazing cakes and sugarcraft creations and unfortunately only managed to have a really brief look at some of the tables. Here is a selection of what I saw, I hope you find them inspiring.
I love the colours used on this cake and the string work reminds me of a competition cake I created for the same show back in 1997! If you have never tried string work, why not give it a go, it takes a bit of time and patience but I really enjoy doing it and of course there is a wonderful sense of achievement once it complete. Well done Elizabeth.
This exciting creation won a gold award in the decorative exhibit class, I’ve always loved creating animals from cake but I don’t think I’ve ever made one this scary!
Counldn’t resist the cake of Mater the Tow Truck from the animated Pixar film Cars, again a prize winner in the decorative exhibit class, isn’t he gorgeous!
I always like to see my products in use on other peoples cakes and this bronze winning cake jumped out at me as Kaye had used my Greek repeat stencil – very striking.
There were some fabulous sugar models at the show. These two Thai dancers caught my eye especially, I can imagine them continuing the dance!
Finally this beautiful royal iced cake from the Leeds City College table. I find using pastel colours tricky, they are not what i’m naturally drawn too, so when other people do so very successfully I can only stand back and admire. Loved the subject matter too.
Enjoy
