We commenced our early spring workshops today with Lindy’s Stencil Techniques class. As you know Lindy absolutely loves stencils and they have become the technique du jour in the Sugarcraft world. We also launch this, our very first Live workshop blog – written during the workshop with quotes as they happen. We hope you like our new approach, do let us know what you think…but now back to stencilling….
Lindy’s knowledge and clever use of colour inspires everyone and within a few hours of demonstrating Lindy’s workstation is full of beautifully stencilled examples. Lindy will often use more than one colour on a stencil particularly when she uses dusts, the effect is fabric like. Some colours can look like velvet on sugarpaste…too good to eat? Never!! I think it’s fair to say that Lindy’s colour addiction is pink! Although she has been trying to use other colours and not so much pink of late… not today!! She is having a pink revival and is even wearing her pink jumper to match!!
One of the perks working for Lindy is that you sometimes get to be a student on one of her workshops. Today our new colleague Zoe is doing the class. Zoe joined Lindy’s Cakes on Monday and will be working as part of the mail-order team. Zoe is working with predominantly with black, white and pale pink today…very dramatic Zoe!

Student Katie S has put herself under no pressure what-so-ever by bringing a cake to class that she needs to stencil for a client!! I am pleased to report that Katie has just jumped up and let out of a scream of joy because she stencilled the top of her cake without “stuffing it up” her words not mine!! Now she’s telling us that… “my heart’s going at a hundred miles an hour, no-body take my blood pressure!”

My heart goes out to newly expectant mummy who is stencilling with morning sickness…I remember oh to well. She is using a lot of pink today…taste of things to come perhaps!!

Our colleague Sarah B has joined the workshop team, yay! Sarah will be doing the meet & greet of students when they arrive with her cheery personality and lovely smile. She will also be in charge of the delicious lunch that we provide. Made by Whitewaters Deli & Café in Wendover we feasted on a selection of vegetarian tarts as well as cous cous salad and a rocket salad. Followed with fresh fruit and majool dates. Yummy!
And here’s an exclusive…over the past few months we have been designing aprons! Using Lindy’s own drawings and designs we have incorporated them onto our very own Lindy’s Cakes aprons. It’s really exciting for us and we hope to launch our first apron in a couple of months. They are fab… we showed our students a sample of one today and it went down really well. Next task will be talking Lindy into modelling one for the website… catwalk style!!
This class always gets an enthusiastic response. As Lindy has just said ‘stencilling is great because the results are instant’ They are also stunning. I love watching Lindy demonstrate and hearing the collective ‘wows’ when she peels off her stencil for the big reveal!! It makes me smile every time. It is also the kind of class that if you stand still for long enough you might just get stencilled yourself!!

If you’d like to join us on a similar workshop why not take a look at our workshop calendar to help you decide which to choose.
