Introduction to celebration cakes… yay… what a great way to end this collection of Lindy’s classes. You all know it’s my favourite class and as we down tools for the summer holidays Lindy and I have been reflecting on the classes of previous weeks. For the first time ever we have held two Introduction to Celebration Cakes workshops in this collection and they have sold out both times, proving that this course is the ultimate class for the beginner and seasoned sugarcrafter alike.
The main focus of this class is to learn techniques and tips to help you achieve a professional finish. Covering the cake and board is the priority because a lovely finish at this stage will serve well for decorating your cake. As Lindy says don’t be fooled by a simple design… they are the hardest to do because those little flaws have no-where to hide!!
If I had a pound for every time that a student says ‘you make it look so easy Lindy’ I would be sunning myself in Miami instead of dodging the British rain!! Yes it’s true she does make it look easy but the beauty of a Lindy Smith workshop is you can watch Lindy work at close range… then you get to have a go with support by your side. If you make a mistake we say ‘good’ because we can correct it on the spot and give you the chance to have another go. Practice, practice practice and sugarcraft confidence will be all yours cakefriends!
We all love a wedding… Lindsey has decided to do her own wedding cake so is here today to get tuition from one of, if not, the best sugarcrafters in the cake world. Lindy is a Gold Award winner cake designer so she really knows what she is doing. Lindsey is taking inspiration from Lindy’s 3-tier Snowflake Cake from her book ‘Cakes to Inspire and Desire’ for her winter wedding. Although we were laughing and saying that the weather patterns have gone mad in GB it will probably be a warm sunny day. Hope so, Lindsey. We can’t wait to see the finished result in December. Photos, please!
It’s super to welcome back Zoe today. Zoe recently joined us for the paste patterning class… she’s very wisely enjoying some creative days out because in about 5 weeks time her 3rd baby is due. She will be sorted now for all the celebration cakes needed for the future!!
The weather is giving us some challenges today, it’s very humid and there is a lot of moisture in the air so nothing is drying well and the sugarpaste is still wet. It’s beyond your control cake friends so Lindy is giving our students some tips on how to deal with the weather!!
Lindy has just placed her cake on the board and is now demonstrating various ways of decorating the cake. She is currently stencilling with the most gorgeous new stencil Moroccan Medallion… you should have heard the collective “WOW” … stunning! Lindy is now making flowers with impression moulds and making vintage buttons… Lindy’s current crush!
The last hour of this class is so much fun. All the naked cakes are starting to look beautifully dressed with stencils and flowers and pearls. I think there are going to be some very impressed family & friends of our students. Ladies your celebration cakes look super!
We’re taking a break from workshops for the British summer holidays returning in September. We have just released our next collection of workshops which include some new classes as well as some old favourites. It’s an exciting collection and there is definitely a class for everyone.
Come and join us and be taught by the uber talented and accessible Lindy Smith.
