I have been cake decorating for over 25 years and I’m still as passionate about my craft as I have always been, if not more so. I consider myself an artist whose medium happens to be sugar. I love what I do, it’s taken over my life, it’s what I live and breath. However, I know that what is every day for me is not for most. People are intrigued by my sugarcraft journey, amazed by the number of books I have written and where my teaching has taken me, so naturally, they are interested in knowing more.
Over the years I have been interviewed many, many times by magazines, radio stations, television companies and more recently by online companies. Sometimes the questions are very similar: How did you start out? What inspires you? What is your favourite technique? But more times than not, the questions are phrased in different ways in order to appeal to specific audiences and sometimes completely new questions are asked, which I love.
I always enjoy these interviews, they put me on the spot and make me think….they are good reflective exercises. I spend most of my time looking forward, experimenting with ideas and planning my next projects and teaching trips, it is easy to forget what I have achieved and what has gone before!
Increasingly I am being asked for interviews from companies outside the UK and my latest interview, with the Canadian company Cilantro, is an example. The interview is as part of their Expert Interview Series. Here’s a screenshot of the beginning of the interview.
Hope you find my answers interesting, insightful and may be useful….
Sweet wishes
Lindy
