I am sure, like me, you love nice surprises! My publishers recently sent me an email letting me know that my latest book ‘Simply Modern Wedding Cakes‘ has been shortlisted for an award, how wonderful. Now I know that awards seem to be two a-penny these days but never-the-less when a nomination is a complete surprise and your work is being recognised and judged by eminent people including designers in other fields, it is somewhat thrilling.
The awards have 20 categories, including papercraft, crochet, gardening, the best design book and of course cake decorating. The magazine publishers say that
“It’s a chance for us to honour a variety of wonderful books that have been adored by us and the creative nation over the past 12 months”.
For each category, there will be both a Winner and a Highly Commended book. Winners will be announced in issue 52 (on sale 9th December) – I’ve got my fingers crossed
In case you are wondering who I’m up against, the shortlisted sugarcraft titles are below:
The Shortlisted Sugarcraft Books:
- Cake Decorating by Giovanna Torrico (Murdoch Books)
- Cakemoji (Quadrille)
- Buttercream One-Tier Wonders by Valeri Valeriano and Christina Ong (F&W Media International)
- Simply Modern Wedding Cakes by Lindy Smith (F&W Media International)
- 100 Little Sugar Decorations To Make (Search Press)
As part of the awards, the Homemaker magazine would like to know what is your favourite ever craft book. If you have one why, not have your say and if you are lucky you could win a fabulous prize.
Good Luck
Lindy
