Lindy would never be drawn on what her favourite workshop is but I can… I love the beginners’ workshop and always have. I think the appeal for me is that our students achieve so much in one day… err and perhaps because it’s aimed at my own sugarcraft level!!
Most students arrive with very little knowledge of cake decorating sugarcraft style but everyone leaves with a wealth of knowledge and a beautifully covered and decorated cake. When you are personally taught by an expert you will gain valuable tips and a working knowledge that is difficult to get from books and DVDs. Having said that, they are fabulous teaching tools but not quite as fabulous as the personal touch, and with Jane and Sally as assistants to Lindy you are in very safe hands. I’ve written before that this class should not be thought of as for ‘beginners’ only. It can also be used as a wonderful refresher class to learn the basics and achieve a professional finish. Everyone benefits… it’s a win win! Rebecca is testament to this. She has already done the challenging Designer Handbag workshop but has joined us today to perfect her finish. It’s a smart move and one that Lindy would wholeheartedly recommend.
Out students today have come from far and wide: 2 have crossed the seas to be with us. We have Ioana from Romania and Marianne from Guernsey!
Ioana and I have been having a giggle because she has been telling me that she has come to do this class to re-invent herself and find her inner creativeness! Working in a stressful financial environment in Romania she is hoping that sugarcraft will be the perfect antidote to this. Plus she wants to impress her husband, at the moment she doesn’t really cook or bake or make things, I can’t wait to hear what he says when he sees her cake!! And I don’t have to wait long because she is joining us again next Friday for the Paste Patterning Class.
Marianne is heading to Weybridge tonight to spend the evening with her daughter before heading back to Guernsey. Of course her daughter is keen to see her creation so a detour is required!!
It’s also been great to catch up with Kathy and Julie-Anne. I met them on their first Lindy workshop Designer Wedding Cookies. Since the class in February they have become firm friends or as we like to say at Lindy’s Cakes ‘cake friends’. They keep in touch via email and texting and arranged to be on this class together. What a fab way to catch up with a friend… better than a spa day any day!!
Whilst Lindy works with the gorgeous colour ‘Bluegrass’ which is very similar to the Tiffany & Co blue, across the room I see a lot of green and pink. Green is definitely having its moment. Actually it’s quite nice to see a variation from the red, white and blue which has dominated our line of vision of late
Lindy’s love of colour has led to her providing her students with a collection of colour pots to try. She decided to encourage them to experiment so has bought her collection of colours for all to try and incorporate into their sugarpaste. It’s working because this is probably the brightest selection of colours I have seen in a long time on a Introduction to Celebration Cakes class. Our students usually opt for the pastels… oh Lindy will be pleased!!
It’s time to decorate now… let the fun begin! Lindy is demonstrating stencilling now and using the most gorgeous dragonfly stencil. It looks incredible…intricate and delicate… and is incredibly easy to achieve. Let Lindy show you how. She is also demonstrating moulds this afternoon… again a super duper sugarcraft accessory that will become your favourite tool!! Lindy is using the rose mould to demonstrate… as Lindy says ‘these roses are absolutely lovely’ and the quality of finish exquisite. Finally Lindy is demonstrating tappits, as requested, not everyone’s favourite tool but one that Lindy loves. Once you know how to use a tappit the Lindy Smith way your mind will be changed! What fun!
I never tire of seeing what our students create on this, or indeed any, class. What is interesting is the increased confidence our students have as the day unfolds. You really do get a sense that they will go away inspired and ready to practice their sugarcraft at whole new level!
Join us! Come and be taught by Lindy Smith … come and have some fun … come and create something really special.
You won’t be disappointed… I give you my KiwiRachel guarantee!!
