Cake DVD filming – day three – this was my favourite day, because at long last I had the time to sit back and watch the crew at work, to appreciate their skills and learn more about what they actually do. The day started with Tammy from Magic Dust wedding planning, asking me cake questions that her brides often ask, Tammy is a wonderfully bubbly person so I hope you all will enjoy our short chat. To cheat the cameras we had to sit unnaturally close together, a bit off putting, but luckily Tammy and I know each other quite well!
Frequently asked questions was next – I am always being asked questions, so this section on each DVD is designed to answer some of these. When I’m writing my cake decorating books I can never include more general information so this was a prime opportunity to let you know a little bit more about me, as well as give you some general baking and covering tips etc. When I get enthused about a subject – I always am about sugarcraft – I tend to talk faster and faster, so I hope its not too garbled…..the film crew thought it was fantastic…..you’ll have to let me know what you think once you have your copy!
The best words to describe what I was seeing was – “poetry in motion” – It was incredible…..My cakes on a simple rotating turntable on a plain background but Colin made them ‘dance’ and come to life, I could have watched all day, the way he used the camera was magical. We later discovered that one year he had been awarded ‘News Cameraman of the Year’! I can’t wait to see the edited versions….
I love to learn new things, so I was intrigued when we had to record the sound of the room we were in – i.e. sit very still for 30 seconds whilst Tim, the sound recordist, did his stuff. Apparently when films are edited together there is sometimes small spaces and these need to be filled with the ambient sound otherwise they are noticeable!
A few more bits and pieces and then those by now familiar words “Its a WRAP”
We are hoping the DVD’s will be ready mid to end of May – you’ll be able to pre-order your copies very soon
