Decorated cookies – what a great alternative to traditional Easter eggs, I’m sure the family and friends of Fridays students will be suitably impressed. Many students were completely new to sugarcraft so I think you’ll agree they did really well. We even had two ladies fly over from Majorca especially for the class!! – It never ceases to amaze me the distance that people travel to my classes, but apparently decorated cookies have yet to make it to the sunny Mediterranean!
The class was based around cookies from my ‘bake me I’m yours…COOKIE’ book. Amongst other things, I introduced the students to one of my favourite tools – the Sugar Shaper – don’t you just love the fluffy chicks!
Another very useful piece of equipment I’m always using is a dresden tool – excellent for marking, shaping and adding texture to the sugarpaste – This chick was textured by just using a dresden tool in a number of different ways.
Royal icing is a medium that many cake decorators shy away from, however, if the consistency is correct you can always achieve the desired effect – I think you’ll agree the flowers and butterflies the students created were magical, without a pointed cone in sight – well-done everybody!
My next cookie decorating classes will be on Friday 1st May 2009 – designer cookies – and Friday 10th July 2009 – summer cookies – in Aston Clinton, Buckinghamshire. Happy decorating
