6th September 2009 by Lindy Smith

  • Students did well, lovely colour combinations – fuschia, black and white, brown and dusty pink, wonder what tomorrows wonky class will bring #
  • Teaching my Op Art cake today in Brisbane, this is going to be slightly different for the students, wonder how they’ll get on? #
  • Met some very intersting cake decorators today at my book signing in Brisbane. They orginated from as far a field as Canada & South Africa! #
  • I love to try new tastes and flavours whilst I’m travelling, so simply had to sampled kangeroo steak last night at dinner – delicious! #
  • Sugarpaste in Australia is sold in 7kg boxes- I was wondering why, what was this magic number? Discovered just a simple imperial conversion! #
  • Discovered orange and poppy seed cake is a very popular wedding cake flavour here – been promised a recipe, so I can bake a UK version, yum #
  • Been hearing all about the climate challenges that Queensland cake decorators have to tackle – We don’t realise how lucky we are in the UK! #
  • Success! My luggage wasn’t over weight, it was a struggle and I’ve left some bits and pieces behind. The downside to working and travelling #
  • Fly up to Brisbane tomorrow for the next leg of my Australian cake adventure. Wonder what more I’ll learn about cakes down under? #
  • Tasted some wonderful chocolates up in the Blue Mountains today – http://www.josophans.com.au – shame I didn’t buy a few more! #
  • They do have pigs here and the tea party cake seemed to go down a treat..lots of questions and interest, modelling was quite new to many! #
  • Deming this evening, making a pigs tea party scene from sugar – do they have pigs in Australia? Perhaps a kangeroo party would be more apt! #
  • I’ve ‘discovered’ Aboriginal art – saw some more examples at the Australian Museum in Sydney this afternoon. I love the colours and patterns #
  • Spent this morning doing research for my next book! Can’t divulge more, but saw some bits and pieces that have sparked off good design ideas #
  • Back from demonstrating my op art cake, doesn’t time fly when you are doing something you enjoy with people who share the same passion!! #
  • Seen great patterned Australain tiles this morning in Camperdown – would work well as a cake design, wonder what else will inspire me today #

    Hi Lindy,

Thanks so much for your time in Brisbane. For me who has not long been in the decorating business, it was a huge more than i could have expected. I cannot wait to get to the uk next year. Have already started to put things in motion. Thanks again
