Aussie Tweets – Week 2009-09-20

20th September 2009 by Lindy Smith

  • Arrived back in the UK safe and sound. I really love to travel but I always look forward to coming home, especially after a good trip! #
  • Learnt that many wedding cakes in Singapore are provided by hotels as part of the wedding package, also that many of these are dummy cakes! #
  • Saw Chinese ‘open up’ cakes (literal translation) today – steamed cakes (like most Chinese cakes) that look as if they have popped open! #
  • Visited a shop selling wooden mooncake moulds today in Chinatown Singapore – that explains how all the incricate patterns are achieved! #
  • Mooncakes seem to be everywhere in Singapore at the moment, they are being sold in preparation for the Chinese Mid-Autumn festival. #
  • Tasted mooncakes at Raffles Hotel last night. Their most popular flavour is snow-skin mooncake with champagne truffle and ganache, delicious #
  • Saw Chinese mooncakes today – they are a pastry covered sweets made in the shape of small cakes – tops decorated with lovely patterns. #
  • Totally understand why cake decorators have problems over here in Singapore, it’s so hot and humid – I’m wilting! #
  • Change of climate, I’m flying from slightly chilly Melbourne up to humid Singapore today. Wonder what sugar delights I’ll find there? #
  • Admired photos of John Quai Hoi cakes and sugar work last night, one sparked an idea which I may well use – credited to John, of course. #
