I never have much spare time at Cake International, as I’m needed on my trade stand most of the time, however, whenever I do escape I head straight to the competition area – there are always so many lovely competition pieces to see. I never managed to see them all but here is a selection of some of the cakes and sugarcraft pieces that appealed to me.

I think this cake by Elaine Thomas was certainly one of my favourites and judging by the crowd that was always around it, many other peoples too!

The Shrek films were used as inspiration for a number of cakes but this one by Song Eun Sook was definitely the most impressive. It looked as if each piece of fur had been rolled by hand – how long did that take…?

I simply loved this figurine by Anne Rolley, we know Anne at Lindy’s Cakes as she has been on one of our very successful handbag carving courses, so we were thrilled to see that she was awarded a gold for this beautiful life-like model.

Upside down meets down under – love the concept of this cake. I’ve seen cakes stacked this way before but never so effectively! The aboriginal art reminded me of my cake-teaching trip to Australia last year.
I’ve got more pictures to show you so please come back to see them!

Hi Lindy! Oh wow I’m so flattered to see my entry here! I agree with your other choices, elaine’s very funny cake and that cat fur.. I just wanted to say that i did take a lot of inspiration and technical tips from your books (so they work!) when I started a couple of years ago so my gold is partly the fruit of your labour!
Hi to the girls.
