Last week can only be described as a glorious shambles at Lindy’s Cakes HQ… all in pursuit of celluloid perfection of course! Our office has been transformed into a photographic studio and Lindy’s office is packed with beautiful props…fabrics, vintage crockery, jewellery, lace, toys… Lindy and I have had the lovely task, not arduous at all, of choosing what should go with the beautiful cakes that Lindy has designed and made. She has put hours of work into her creations so we feel a strong desire to get it right. We want the cake to look as beautiful on film as it does in real life so we will tweak and re-shoot until it looks perfect in Lindy’s eyes. Two long days of shooting and our photographic team have produced a stunning collection of photographs. Each of Lindy’s sugarcraft creations has been styled to bring out it’s best side and Lindy is thrilled with the result.
Prepare to be dazzled…in the meantime this is a taster of what we got up to!
Airbrushing…no way…not at Lindy’s Cakes! Makeup brushes make fantastic soft dusters…here I am making sure that there isn’t a spec on this beautiful little cake!
Everyone gets involved in a photoshoot. It’s hard not to because it becomes all-consuming. The mailorder team were squashed into a corner of the office to make way for our studio, there were boxes and leads everywhere…and they still managed to get all the orders out on time! Even Olive in accounts got fleeced, for we temporarily stole her engagement ring off her finger for a wedding cake shot! Lindy’s team brought in a fabulous selection of props to help us style the shoot…
Before each shot, there is much discussion as to how the next frame should look! Here’s Lindy talking to Simon, our photographer, and Charly our editorial designer about the next shot.
Producing a book is hard work, exhausting, and the photographic side is no exception. But it is also creative, artistic and very rewarding… it’s what Lindy Smith is all about! If this book isn’t the ‘must have’ sugarcraft book of the century I’ll eat my sugarcraft hat!!
Watch this space!

Hi there. Just wondered what the photographer uses to photograph your cakes. Does he use some sort of diffuser over the lighting. I only ask because i want to photograph my wives cakes.
Fantastic blog, and website too

Lindys Team says
Hi Alan,
Lindy uses natural light when photographing her cakes but the photographer uses a diffuser.
Glad to hear you are enjoying the blog and website.
Hope to see you and your wife soon on a course!
