Cookie pops or biscuits on sticks – what fun!!!

1st September 2011 by Lindy Smith

I’ve made cookies on sticks on many occasions as children, particularly, seem to adore the novelty value of eating a cookie as if it was a lollipop!  In my very popular  ‘bake me I’m yours…cookie‘ book I included two examples, with my favourite being my ‘up, up and away’ ballooon cookies – so easy to make and yet so impressive!

Delightful balloon cookie pops - up, up and away!

I was helping judge the finals of the Millies cookies ‘Ice off’ competition recently and whilst there I was reminded how effective single cookie pops can be. Below is one of the competition pieces, these cookies are not exquisite works of edible art, however they do have a certain charm all of their own. Millie’s cookies is all about using quality ingredients but maintaining the handmade look and I think these fit the bill perfectly.

Fancy baking your own? I think you could easily have a go at making these by simply using two different types of cookie dough, choosing contrasting colours for the most impact. What taste combination will you try – Chocolate and vanilla, ginger and nut, chocolate and orange….? Hope these inspire you.

If you’d like to try baking balloon cookies click here for the cutter that will get you started.

Happy baking

I have the plastic lollipop sticks that I use for cake pops, however I am making some flag cookies for a help for heroes fundraiser and wanted to make biscuits on a stick. I was wondering how do I get the plastic stick in the cookie, is this somethin i have to so as soon as the cookie is out the oven?

    Many Thanks
    KAREN

    Hello Karen,
Yes you’re right. As soon as the cookies are out of the oven, insert the sticks. If you are using plastic sticks make sure they are food grade plastic. Personally I would prefer the sticks manufactured from paper products as I’m not sure how the plastic would react with the warm cookies.
