Ombre sugar ruffles, so pretty! I loved creating these for the ‘Sweetheart Stripe’ wedding cake below – you’ll now find the cake in my ‘Simply Modern Wedding Cakes‘ book. It was such fun experimenting with all my cutters to find which ones worked, which didn’t and which I liked the most. The winner was definitely my moghal arch cutter, as once frilled it created such a beautiful shape – so elegant.
Ruffles having their moment!
According to the fashion pundits, ruffles are having a ‘retail moment’ right now and are ‘here to stay’. I certainly have been having a lot of fun with mine, adding them to not only cakes but dress cookies and various more flamboyant cupcakes decorations – fabulous! Hopefully, you find this short tutorial informative and useful, enabling you to experiment with your own sugar ruffles.
How to make ombre sugar ruffles
Ombre sugar ruffles are by no means a quick form of decoration. I suggest you don’t try creating them in a hurry! They are however very therapeutic to make, so why not just enjoy the process. Simply pile one on top of on another….they don’t fall off the cake trust me! To stick, I’m a great fan of water but sugar glue would do the job beautifully too.
