Lockdown launch – Publication Day for ‘One Tier Party Cakes’, a day when a normal book launch isn’t possible…
Lockdown Launch – what is possible?
At the book planning stage no one, of course, had ever heard of Coronavirus. Nor dreamt about the impact it would have on our everyday lives. So many things have been cancelled or put on hold for the foreseeable future. My new cake decorating book, however, was created and photographed, in the main, during 2019. This meant it’s publication date remained, the 1st October 2020, as planned.
My original intention was always to launch this new title (my first for 4 years) at the Cake International Exhibition at the NEC…but the world changed and public appearances, demonstrations, book signings etc are not possible, at least for the time being!
Publication day alternatives?
What to do? I was in a quandary…how to mark this book launch in a meaningful way?
The best I could do was to take a copy of my new book, fresh out of the box, on a local jaunt. Exploring the Shropshire border countryside, celebrating the landscape that inspired some of the book’s projects.
What a day!
We started off in Montgomery, fuelling up with coffee and, of course, cake. Then it was over to Michell’s fold, a Bronze age stone circle. Not quite as impressive as Stonehenge but nevertheless a magical place to visit. It seemed appropriate. Finally, we scaled the heights of Cordon Hill, a summit I’ve had my eyes on for years…
I thoroughly enjoyed my day out taking photos, it certainly made the day memorable. I hope you enjoy this short video and the cake decorating projects it reveals.
