Cakes and sugarcraft magazine have just published the remaining 25 cakes in their 100 iconic cakes series. If you are not familiar with the series, over 4 issues the magazine is looking back over its first 100 issues and choosing one cake from each issue. Readers are then asked to vote for their favourite cake from the 25 featured. The current magazine – issue 105, summer 2009 – is featuring issues 76-100, the final 25.
It’s fascinating to see which cakes has been chosen by the editorial team and again I am very honoured to have one of my cakes chosen.
Issue 83 – Klimt’s Kiss
This is a cake I thoroughly enjoyed creating, it was inspired by the painting by Gustav Klimt called ‘The Kiss’. If you are not familiar with his work, then I suggest you do a little research as his paintings are a fantastic and useful source of inspiration.
As you can see this cake was created using a hexagon, round and small ball tin. The decoration on the base was created using oval cutters and a cutting wheel. The middle tier was decorated using a sugar shaper, whilst I used small heart plunger cutters on the top tier plus some edible sugar balls.
If you’d like to vote for this or any other of the fabulous cakes featured remember to enter before the 19th June 2009 – there are prizes to be won!
