Cake exhibitions are always a good place to see new cake ideas and to gather inspiration to help you create your own amazing cakes. Cake International at the NEC, a couple of weeks ago, was no exception and although I spent most of my time on the Lindy’s cakes stand I did sneak out a couple of times to see what I could find that inspired or impressed me. As those of you who visited this year will know, it was a little crazy so there were some cakes that I didn’t get near enough to photograph! But here are a selection of cakes that I found interesting.
I always like contrasting colours – using them leads to very dramatic cakes.
I was of course attracted to this cake because of the cake jewellery and the beautiful yet simple flowers.
I like the combination of modelling and royal icing on this cake together with the bold use of primary colours.
I am always drawn to oriental cakes – the detail on this cake is absolutely superb.
Isn’t it amazing what we can all create in sugar!
I hope the above has inspired you. I just wish I had more time to look around all the exhibition cake!

Hi Lindy,
What a surprise when I looked at your blog to find a picture of my cake! Thank you for your comments. I decided to have a go at the jewellery after watching your DVD. My confidence to enter the airbrush class came after winning a place on the course in the Cake Craft Magazine – a gold for my first attempt was a high!!
Have a great Christmas,
Donna.
