The branch tables at the British Sugarcraft Exhibition in Telford in May were just stunning and it’s been a joy to blog about them. Little did we know when we started to blog about the delicious sugarcrafted seaside scene that it was made by ‘Exeter Cygnets’ – a group of British Sugarcraft Guild members who are all under the age of 18. If these young people are our sugarcraft future, then a bright future it is certain to be!
Surf’s Up in Sugar!
“Oh we do like to be beside the seaside, oh we do like to be beside the sea!” What could be more quintessentially British? Beach huts, deckchairs, a fishing boat and surf boards parked up on the sand … All the better that the whole seaside scene is made out of sugar!
This was another of the fabulous branch tables at the BSG International Sugarcraft Exhibition in Telford in May. A British seaside scene lovingly recreated and brilliantly evoking our cherished memories of a day on the beach. The detail is amazing. True to life Victoriana lamposts line the prom, and the blooms are so lifelike that you could pluck them and pop them in a vase. From parasol to every speck of sand – it looks good enough to eat!
Pride of place is the flower garden – the municipal centrepiece of the promenade – in the shape of a clock. A perfect and timely sugacraft creation declaring that the season of both scorching days and windswept rainy afternoons are upon us!

Thanks again to the BSG branch tables for getting us into the seasonal swing with sugarcraft. However fickle our Britsh seasons, it can always be summer in sugar!
